Managing Your Digital Profile: Now and Later

It’s an odd, but interesting conundrum that the legal world is only just beginning to sort out. The rules change almost daily, and they are wildly different for each social platform. When you agree to open those Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn et al accounts, what exactly are you agreeing to?

It turns out that few of us are exactly sure.

What happens to your accounts – all of your information, photos, artwork, comments? Who owns the your profile? How would your loved ones access your accounts? Can they access your accounts, and shut them down?

Social Media, Information Overload and Typos

In this rush-to-publish-everything world we inhabit, it’s rare that anything goes through the proofing channels it once did. Remember when proofing got multiple line items in schedules?

With some exceptions, those days are gone. For social media channels and Wordpress sites, most of us self-publish our blog content, our Twitter/Facebook/LinkedIn updates, our web updates, and the list goes on. Many of those channels have their own unique lingo – #hashtags, abbreviations, word references, tags or even coined words in order to shorten the messages. Can the NYC subway map ever satisfy everyone?

In a few weeks, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) will unveil a revamped version of the NYC subway map. The MTA is positioning the map as “a resized, recolored and simplified edition of the well-known map, its first overhaul in more than a decade.”

The last time the subway map generated this much chatter: the famous, or infamous Vignelli design. The highly stylized, abstract version had some designers kvelling and most civilians yelling. Architectural critic Paul Goldberger described the map as “a stunningly handsome abstraction” that “bears little relation to the city itself.” But it’s an informational interpretation of a system… (more…)
