Wayfinding ~ Locating Your Inner Child to Unblock Creativity

Listening to 12 year-old prodigy Adora Svitak’s TedTalk was both frightening and inspiring. That a 12 yo has the ability and the presence to put together an eight minute talk to an audience of 1,000 adults is simply mind blowing.

The essence of Adora’s presentation states that adults have a lot to learn from children. She touches on some insightful points that apply to creativity and openmindedness:

  • Optimism. Children dream and believe in the possibilities
  • Big ideas. Children have the “audacity to imagine”
  • No limits. Children don’t see restrictions or follow predetermined rules

In short, children haven’t yet learned FEAR. It’s well documented that, yes the f-word, blocks creativity. Fear is an integral part of any creative process. But fear, when it applies to critical judgment that drives most of adult decision-making, ultimately quashes innovation and creativity.

Adora reminds us that’s there’s a joy and an incredible learning ability in innocence.
